Review
I love Stephen King. We see a return to one of his favourite supernatural themes: telepathy. At first you think this is going to be a straight-forward zombie apocalypse story (the opening scenes are soooo good) but if you know King, you know you can make no assumptions on how it's all going to play out. The entire concept for the disaster in this book is quite original, and its fascinating to see how the surviving characters adapt to their new way of life, and how the victims of "The Pulse" change too. King is great at yanking on the reader's emotions, and he delivers on that many times throughout this book. These parts (especially the main character, Clay's, memories of happier times when his son was young, and the sudden, unexpected death of one of the main characters) moved me much more than the not-too-frequent, but quite steady flow of macabre descriptions, although, of course, all had their place in the story. The ending was left open, but I like to imagine it all came good for Clay and his son, Johnny.
